When Should You Book A Newborn Session

Is there anything sweeter than baby toes and yawns? Walden Kade was the trifecta of sweetness with one of the best sets of baby lips I have seen. I would be lying if I said I only took a few photographs of just his lips.
Kelli and Kadee brought him to my studio in Abingdon VA when he was almost 2 months old. The ‘ideal’ window for a newborn session is within the first 2 weeks after a baby is born. Life is crazy and there are so many elements that new parents cannot control and the reality is that so many of us have the best intentions of planning ahead but time gets away from us?.
So when should you book your newborn session? I always recommend booking your newborn session before your baby arrives. It alleviates stress from you because you know you are on the schedule and you can take your time to fill out the questionnaire and review the planning guide. You don’t have to frantically contact photographers after your baby arrives crossing your fingers and toes you can get a session scheduled.
What is the ideal window for a newborn session? Why is there an ideal window for newborns? Those are two very common question that I often hear. The ideal window is within the first two weeks after the baby is born. Typically during this wdinow the baby sleeps for longer stretch of time and it is very natural for them to be wrapped or curled up. But the reality is that each baby is different and I have had two month old babies sleep better than a 7 day old newborn.
If my baby is older than 2 weeks can I still schedule a session? I will also do my best to accommodate a family who wants to capture this small and fleeting moment. I will never say no to a baby that is past the ‘ideal’ window because the toes are still tiny, the yawns so sweet and they are changing every second.
Walden is proof that the ideal window is just a suggestion because each baby is unique and perfectly made.
